AT Nolan Achieves ‘Climate Partner Certified’ Status: A Milestone in Our Commitment to Sustainability

For the last 2 years, AT Nolan have worked with leading corporate climate advisors and auditors ‘Climate Partner’. This partnership has allowed us to clearly understand and analyse our operations, their carbon footprint and develop a roadmap for improvement. More importantly though, since 2023 it has allowed us to offset our emissions and become a Climate Neutral organisation.

We are now thrilled to announce that AT Nolan has recently achieved Climate Partner’s newest, most rigorous and highly acclaimed status ‘Climate Partner Certified’, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainability and environmental stewardship. This certification underscores our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint and leading by example in the facilities management sector.

What Does It Mean to Be Climate Partner Certified?

Becoming Climate Partner Certified is not just a badge of honour; it’s a rigorous process that reflects a company’s true commitment to climate action. The certification process involves five key steps, each of which AT Nolan has successfully completed, demonstrating our proactive approach to sustainability. For more detailed information on these steps, you can visit our dedicated Climate Partner Certified web page.

Here’s how AT Nolan tackled each of these critical steps:

1. Calculate Carbon Footprint

The first step in achieving certification is to measure the company’s carbon footprint accurately. With the help and oversight of a Climate Partner consultant, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of our operations, including energy consumption, travel, waste management, and supply chain activities. By understanding our carbon output, we were able to pinpoint the areas with the highest emissions, allowing us to focus our reduction efforts where they would make the most impact. This detailed analysis covers emissions across scopes 1, 2 & 3. To better understand the different scopes of emissions, you can click on the links under section one of our dedicated Climate Partner Certified web page.

From July 2022 to July 2023, AT Nolan’s emissions were 115,468.72 Kg CO₂, of which almost 50% came from our vehicle fleet.

2. Set Reduction Targets

After identifying our carbon footprint, the next step was to set significant yet achievable reduction targets. At Nolan have committed to a series of short-term and long-term goals aimed at reducing our carbon emissions, with the ambitious target of a reduction of 90% by 2030. These measures include adopting energy-efficient technologies, optimising our logistics to reduce travel emissions, and encouraging sustainable practices across all levels of our organization.

Two of the most significant commitments we have set to reduce our emissions are:

– Source a minimum of 90% of our electricity as green energy from 2025.

– Transition from a diesel and petrol vehicle fleet towards a fully electric fleet, with an ambitious target of being as close to fully electric by 2030 as possible, dependent on technological and infrastructural capabilities.

3. Implement Reduction Measures

Setting targets is one thing, but taking concrete actions to achieve them is where the real challenge lies. AT Nolan has already demonstrated that we have implemented a variety of reduction measures, such as constructing a new, highly energy-efficient head office in Trafford Park, achieving ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, the use of energy-efficient technologies such as LED lighting and heat recovery units, and minimising or eradicating landfill waste through our partnership with leading sustainable waste management provider Kenny Waste. These measures have not only reduced our carbon footprint but also enhanced our operational efficiency.

4. Offset Unavoidable Emissions

While we are making significant strides towards reducing our emissions, some are simply unavoidable in our sector. To address this, AT Nolan continue to invest in high-quality carbon offset projects that meet internationally recognised standards. This year we have chosen to support three projects: reforestation in the UK and abroad, green energy across Africa, and providing solar lamps and clean water filters to families in India. To read more about these projects and the incredible impact they are having, please click on the links.

Through supporting these projects we have offset 127,116 Kg CO₂ (an additional 10% on top of our calculated emissions).

5. Transparency and Communication

The final step in the certification process involves transparent reporting and communication of our climate actions. AT Nolan believes in the importance of accountability, which is why we have made all our efforts and achievements public. By sharing our journey, we hope to inspire other companies to take similar steps towards sustainability. A Future-Focused Commitment

Achieving Climate Partner Certified status is a testament to AT Nolan’s forward-thinking approach to environmental responsibility. We understand that our actions today will shape the future of our planet, and we are committed to making that future sustainable. This certification is not the end of our journey but a stepping stone towards greater environmental goals.

We are proud of this accomplishment, and we want to extend our gratitude to our team, partners, and clients who have supported us along the way. Together, we can continue to innovate and lead in sustainable practices, ensuring that we leave a positive legacy for future generations.
